Rabun fire declared arson, reward still offered on Toccoa fire

A fire that destroyed a vehicle and damaged a metal shop building in Rabun County has been ruled as arson, Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King  announced yesterday (Sept. 6). The fire occurred on September 1, just before 4:30 p.m. 

King stated, “The fire was intentionally set in a vehicle parked on a property in Green Street in Mountain City and spread to a nearby shop building. There was also an attempt to set a second vehicle at the property on fire and several other vehicles had their windows busted out.”

King said that, in coordination with the state Fire Investigations Unit, a reward of up to $10,000 is offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for arson. 

The Mountain City Police Department is working with King’s office on the fire. 

Also, King’s office is still investigating a fire that took place in July in Charles Hayes Road.

As reported by WNEG News, On July 19, investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene of a camper fire on Charles Hayes Road in Toccoa.

The blaze began at approximately 11:06 p.m. on July 18 and completely destroyed the residence. 

There is a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the Hayes Road fire or the Rabun County fire.
