Quiet July 4th on Lake Hartwell, no BUI arrests, no accidents or drownings

It was a relatively quiet July 4th holiday weekend on Lake Hartwell compared to some years, according to DNR law enforcement officials.

DNR officer Craig Fulghum said even though it was very busy on lake over the weekend, there were only a few minor issues and nothing out of the ordinary.

He said there were no BUI arrests and no accidents or drownings.

Fulghum said he believes people are finally starting to take the problem of boating and drinking seriously.

Fulghum noted that by contrast, Lake Lanier had 13 BUI arrests over the July 4th weekend and one drowning.

But the summer boating season is not over, and another big holiday weekend is coming up in early September.

Fulghum again reminds people who are planning to be out on the lake over the long Labor Day holiday to stay safe and have a designated skipper if you plan to drink on your boat.
