Qualifying for Toccoa’s General Election Ends Today

Qualifying ends this afternoon for two Toccoa City Commission races.

The General Election takes place November 7.

Both the City of Toccoa and the City of Martin will have open seats in November, according to Stephens County Registrar Bill Cochran.

“In the City of Toccoa there’s two commissioner seats open for the election, that would be Jeannette Jameison and Evan Hellenga’s current seats,” said Cochran. “In the town of Martin there are two council seats and the mayor for a total of three seats open for the election.”

According to Toccoa City Clerk Fredda Wheeler, both incumbent City Commissioners have qualified to run for re-election, but no other potential candidates have yet come forward.

Those wishing to qualify for either of the two City of Toccoa Commission seats, should do so at the Toccoa City Clerk’s office before 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Wheeler said the qualifying fee for the City Commission races is $272.

Meantime, qualifying for the Martin races continues through noon on Friday.

As of Tuesday, no one had qualified for either of the two Martin city council seats nor the mayor’s post, according to Cochran.

The qualifying fee to run for one of the Martin City Council seats is $90.

Qualifying for the Martin mayoral race is $120.

Anyone wishing to qualify for one of the Martin races must do so at the Stephens County Registrar’s office in Toccoa.
