Qualifying fees set for upcoming local elections

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners, at its regularly scheduled commission meeting on Tuesday, January 09, voted to fix qualifying fees for the upcoming May 21 General Primary/Nonpartisan election.  Those qualifying fees are as follows:

In Non-Partisan races: 

Magistrate Court Judge: $1,123.76
Probate Court Judge: $1,778.88
State Court Judge:  $1,139.86

And in the Partisan races: 

Sheriff: $2,122.59
Clerk of Superior Court: $1,778.88
Tax Commissioner: $1,778.88
Coroner: $1,035.00

State Court Solicitor: $1,004.67
County Commissioner Post 2: $360.00
County Commissioner Post 3: $360.00
School Board D1 Post 1: $36.00
School Board D3 Post 1: $36.00
School Board At Large 1: $36.00

In accordance with state law, the qualifying period will be Monday, March 4 through Thursday, March 7, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Friday, March 8 from 9 a.m. until noon.

Qualifying for the Democratic Party will take place at Black Law Offices located at 141 Savannah Street W., Suite B, Toccoa.

Qualifying for the Republican Party will take place at the offices of Bross, McAllister & Williams, LLC located at 268 N. Broad Street, Toccoa.

Qualifying for Non-Partisan positions will take place at the Historic Courthouse located at 37 W. Tugalo Street, Toccoa.

Also in local election news: The Stephens County Election Office, located in the Historic Courthouse, 37 W. Tugalo Street, will hold an open house on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

Stephens County Election Supervisor Bruce Carlisle is holding the open house to showcase the upgrades to the facility and to demonstrate the election process for the upcoming election cycle.

He said everyone is invited and encouraged to attend, and added that a part of the event will take place during the regularly-scheduled Stephens County Commission meeting, and Carlisle encouraged residents to attend that meeting also.
