Qualifying Date Set for Local Mid-term Elections

It is a mid-term election year and the Stephens County Registrar’s office is already gearing up for the May 22nd General Primary.

In Stephens County, three County Commission seats and two Board of Education Seats are up for grabs.

County Registrar Bill Cochran says qualifying for those races begins in March.

“Qualifying begins March 5th at the County Registrar’s office and ends at noon on March 9th. The list of qualifying candidates will be posted by 2p on the 9th,” Cochran said.

The qualifying fee for the County Commission races is $360, and the qualifying fee for the Board of Education races is $36.

Cochran said the County Commission seats are at large and their districts are decided by the County Commission chair.

Meantime, early voting starts April 30th and ends May 18th.

Cochran says he now taking requests for absentee ballots.

“Applications for Absentee Ballots are ready. People who are interested in receiving absentee ballots by mail should request an application now if they have not already done so,” he said.

Additionally, the deadline to register to vote for the May primary is April 24th.
