Quadruple Signing Day Sets ‘Next Steps’ for Indians Football Seniors

Four Stephens County Indian football players recently joined together to hold signing ceremonies at the high school to announce where they will be going to college to play football and further their academic career.

Pictured with Aidan Butts from left, are Gary Butts, Aaron Butts, and Juliana Butts.

Aidan Butts, son of Gary and Julianna Butts, will be attending Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Aidan led the team in tackles for loss last season with 26, and also scored 3 touchdowns on offense. He was named to the AJC 1st Team All-State, the Region 8-AAA overall Player of the Year, and was the WNEG Player of the Year.

Former Middle Tennessee State linebacker coach, Dustin Royston, who played at Stephens County, played a big part in Aidan’s decision to sign there.

Aidan plans to major in sports management.

Solomon Dupree, son of Jaymine Dupree, will be attending the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky. Solomon led the team in quarterback sacks last season with 13, and was named 1st Team Defense on the All-Region 8-AAA team.

Solomon said the beauty of the campus and that they are a good football team were a couple of the reasons he chose University of the Cumberland.

Solomon plans to major in physical therapy.

Jasec Smith, son of B.J. Smith and Dawn Nicholson, will be attending Kennesaw State University.

Jasec had 7 interceptions with two returned for touchdowns on defense, and has 528 yard receiving with 5 touchdowns on offense last season. He was named to the AJC 1st Team All-State, and the Region 8-AAA Defensive Player of the Year.

Jasec said when he visited Kennesaw State, it felt like home.

Jasec plans to major in business.

Santana Smith, son of Chantee and Jesse Smith, will be attending Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. Santana led the team in tackles last season with 110. He was named 1st Team Defense on the All-Region 8-AAA team.

Santana said Indian Head Coach Wesley Tankersley helped him get noticed by Union College.

Santana plans to major in architecture.
