PUD approved by Commissioners

Last night, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the application by  AK New Ventures, LLC to rezone 42 acres of undeveloped property near the intersection of Mize Road and the Highway 17 Bypass from Commercial General to Planned Unit Development.

The Planned Unit Development, or P.U.D., designation is a new zoning classification added to Stephens County Zoning by vote earlier this year by the commission.

No members of the public commented, in support of, or in objection to the application during the public hearing on the matter held at the beginning of the meeting, and there was no discussion of the agenda item by commissioners prior to the vote.

Following the meeting, WNEG News spoke with Commissioner Chris Rickman, who said that action will help provide balance in the county’s growth over the coming years.

WNEG News will offer additional coverage on this decision by the Board in the coming days as we speak with other commissioners and local officials about the impact this development, and the PUD Zoning district, will have on the community.
