Prayer for Stephens County Schools Date Set

August 1 is the first day of school in Stephens County for the 2019-2020 academic year, and as has been done every summer, dozens will gather to pray for a successful new school year.

This year, Prayer for Stephens County Schools will be held Saturday, July 27.

The Reverend Bradley Collins is the Family Ministry Pastor at Encounter Church in Toccoa and is spearheading this year’s effort.

Formerly known as the Prayer Motorcade, Collins says this year’s prayer event will have some slight changes.

“They’ve called it a Prayer Motorcade for years,” he said. “It’s probably been at least 15-20 years that they’ve been doing this. So this year,  instead of the Prayer Motorcade we are just going to meeet at ech individual school to try something new this year.”

One of the reasons for the change, according to Reverend Collins is to give people more time to pray at each school.

“A lot of times you feel kind of rushed with a 15-minute time limit.  So this is just a way to not be rushed when we get to the school. Everyone will have time to pray. That’s why we’ve set it this year at a 30-minute increments so people can go from school to school, but not to really push for a time limit at each school. They can come and pray as long as they want to,” Collins said.

The Prayer for Stephens County Schools doesn’t just pray for the school year in general.  Collins says prayer also goes up for individuals and students.

“We pray for all the administration, the staff, the students. We pray for the students safety; that the kids will come in and feel safe and feel like it’s a secure place for them to be. And then to just pray for a good year,” he said.

Again, the Prayer for Stephens County Schools is Saturday, July 27 beginning at 9a at the Stephens County Board of Education offices on Big A School Road.
