Possible snowfall this afternoon

There’s another chance of winter precipitation in north Georgia, this time in the form of possible snowfall beginning Tuesday afternoon.

“Right now we’ve got a system coming through, and combined with the cold temperatures and the moisture associated with it, we’re looking for some potential snowfall,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Laura Belanger said.

While there were no winter weather advisories or warnings Monday, the weather service did issue a special weather statement for the possibility of up to an inch of snow.

The statement included Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties.

Forsyth, Hall, Banks, Jackson, Gwinnett and Barrow counties were also included.

The area is generally north of a line from LaGrange to Conyers to Commerce, according to the weather service.

Belanger said the flurries could start in northwest Georgia around noon.

“That’s going to move east and south through the day.  Maybe flurries in the Atlanta area as early as three or four, but nothing of really any significance until (Tuesday) evening,” Belanger said.

The snowfall is also expected to spread into northeast Georgia by the evening, according to the weather service.

In addition to possible snowfall, the forecast called for wind chill values near zero Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.
