Plane Crash in Elbert County leaves man injured

A plane crash on Thursday afternoon, in Elbert County, has left one man injured.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Joe Milford Hunt, 82, of Hartwell was piloting the Super Acro Sport 1, over a wooded area when his plane went down.

The crash happened just before 2 p.m. near Brewers Bridge Road near the intersection of Kathwood Drive Extension.

Hunt was transported from the crash site to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Federal officials remained on scene late into Thursday evening.

The FAA has been working in tandem with the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, the Elberton Police Department, the Elbert County Fire Department, EMA and EMS, throughout various states of the investigation.

WNEG News expects the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the probable cause of the crash some time later this week.
