Operation Market-Garden reenactment

As part of this weekend’s festivities for Currahee Military Weekend, there will be a Battle Reenactment following the Veteran’s Parade in Downtown Tocca.

Operation Market Garden will be reenacted on the bridge at Pond St.

Stephens County Historical Society President Lyn Hack told WNEG News about the reenactment, saying, “it will start right after the Veteran’s Parade, so everyone should rally at the bridge on Pond Street.”

The aim of Operation Market Garden was to establish the northern end of a pincer ready to project deeper into Germany.

Allied forces would project north from Belgium, 60 miles through the Netherlands, across the Rhine and consolidate north of Arnhem on the Dutch/German border ready to close the pincer.

The allies’ efforts were unsuccessful in capturing the bridges; however, this reenactment could depict a different ending, says Hack.

Be sure to come out and watch the reenactment of Operation Market Garden this Saturday at 1 p.m.

The weekend will also include other activities such as the annual Chamber BBQ, USO Swing Dance, Currahee Challenge 5k and 10k run/walk, Banquet and Auction, and much more.
