Just a reminder, a new talent competition, Open Mic Night, begins tonight at the Ritz Theatre in downtown Toccoa.

Ritz Manager Keith Kozicki says it’s a way to showcase the tremendous talent in our area.

“We are going to institute a brand new talent competition to showcase the wealth of talent the area has to offer,” he said. “It will take place the third Monday of the month for four months. It’s free. All you have to do is show up if you want to perform and let us know. It will be a first-come-first-serve rotation.”

Kozicki says each contestant will have 15 minutes to perform and will be allowed three songs.

He says the competition is not just open to residents of Toccoa-Stephens County.

“It’s open to anybody that walks in the door. The great thing about Toccoa is it’s centrally located and within an hour’s drive of about four-million people. So it’s a pretty convenient drive to Toccoa and they’re able to come and experience and beauty and charm of our area,” he said.

Once the four month competition ends, Kozicki says there will be a final competition.

“Each month there’ll be a winner. What we’ll do is have a play-off competition sometime in the winter and that winner will receive a paid gig at next year’s Ida Cox Music Series,” he explained.

The show begins tonight at 7p. Those interested in being contestants should show up early to get their name on the list.
