Oldham asks SCBC for property to house new Agriculture Center

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday for its regular scheduled meeting; during which, Stephens County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Oldham came before the commission to discuss the school systems plans for a piece of property owned by the county.

Oldham says the school system was hoping to gain ownership of the property to be the site of a new Agriculture Center.

He says the Agriculture Center would be located next to the existing building the schools currently uses for its Agriculture Center; however, in order to do so, the school system would need the additional property.

Oldham continued to explain the school systems plans for the new Agriculture Center.

Commissioner Dean Scarborough asked why the school system aren’t considering the old Elementary School building.

Oldham says they originally considered using that building; however, determined that by putting the new center next to the existing one would create a cohesive set of buildings.

Oldham says their plans are to begin construction within the next year.

No motion was made following Oldham’s presentation.
