Oglesby tenders resignation from Stephens County Board of Elections

Stephens County Board of Elections Democratic Party representative Agnes Oglesby has tendered her resignation.

During the Stephens County Board of Commissioners work session and regular scheduled meeting Tuesday, the commissioners accepted Oglesby’s resignation effective immediately.

Stephens County Administrator Phyllis Ayers presented the board with the announcement that Oglesby had submitted her letter of resignation.

Ayers says Oglesby was a joy to work with.

Chairman Dennis Bell thanked Oglesby for her time on the Board of Elections.

“How long has she been there,” Bell asked.

“When you ask her, she’ll say since dirt,” Ayers said. “That’s what she’s always telling me.”

“We appreciate somebody like her that takes the time that she has, because she has taken a lot of time with that,” Bell said.

Commissioner Michelle Ivester announced publicly that she enjoyed working with Oglesby during her time on the board.

“I got to serve with her on that board and she was great to work with, I love Agnes and she loves this community,” Ivester said.

Following the commissioners motion accepting Oglesby resignation, Ivester made a motion nominating Sean Black to fill Oglesby’s unexpired term.

Ivester’s nomination was approved 4-0 with Vice-Chair Debbie Whitlock being absent.

The Stephens County Board of Elections Democratic Party representative term will expire June 30, 2021.

At that time, the Stephens County Board of Commissioners will either reappoint Black to another term or submit a new nomination.
