No Major Incidents on Local Roads Over Thanksgiving Holiday

Thanksgiving is over for another year and local law enforcement report few incidents in Toccoa-Stephens County, despite the Black Friday and Small Business Saturday shopping days.

This year, the Thanksgiving holiday weekend began last Wednesday at 6p and ended at midnight Sunday.

Both the Toccoa Police and the Stephens County Sheriff’s office had extra patrols on the roads looking for motorists not using their seatbelts as well as for impaired drivers.

But Toccoa Police Chief Tim Jarrell says his officers encountered few problems with motorists over the weekend.

“We had no major incidents,” Jarrell said. “We had a few minor traffic accidents. We had to make a couple of arrests. Our Black Friday went well. No incidents were reported as a result of the crowds, any shoplifting reports or anything above normal.”

Both the Toccoa Police and Stephens County Sheriff’s deputies also conducted random checkpoints as well as having extra patrols on the county roadways.

And even though the Thanksgiving holiday is over for another year, local law enforcement is reminding motorists to continue to exercise caution on the roads and remember to wear your seatbelts during the holiday season.
