Ninth District’s Home Heating Assistance continues this week

Home Heating assistance for low-income households continues this week.

Brenda Dalin Director of the Ninth District Opportunity in Gainesville tells WNEG News sign up for their Home Heating Assistance program began last Monday and will run through the end of the month.

Dalin said this year, one-time payments will be made by check issued to the home heating suppliers up to $400.00. Eligibility for the program is based on the income of all household members.

Ninth District spokesman Michael Fisher said they have the preliminary amounts both Stephens and Franklin counties will get from the Federal Government.

Fisher said those amounts will come in two increments. The first amount is coming now and the second amount will come after the first of the year.

Fisher said those federal allotments will impact hundreds of low-income, elderly and homebound citizens in both counties who need help paying their heating bills.

Those receiving assistance will be able to pay at least part of their overall winter heating bills whether they have gas, propane, or electric heating.

To apply for home heating assistance you must first call to make an appointment using the Ninth District’s toll-free number at: 855-636-3108 or you can go online to www.ndo.org/eap.

A representative will then call you back and schedule a time for you to come your local Ninth District office. In Stephens County, you will go to the Ninth District office on Queen St. in Toccoa.

Dalin said when you go to your appointment you must bring verification of the age of every person in your home, verification of all household income from the past 30 days, verification of Social Security numbers for every member in the home, proof of citizenship such as a driver’s license, birth certificate, and your most recent heating bill and electric bill.

Again, the number to call to schedule an appointment is 855-636-3108.
