Ninth District Opportunity to Offer Home Cooling Help for Elderly, Homebound

The Toccoa-Stephens County chapter of the Ninth District Opportunity will be offering help with paying for cooling costs to persons over 65 and the medically homebound.

Eligible households will receive between $350.00 to $400.00 toward their energy costs.

Ninth District Program Director Paula Duley tells WNEG News eligible residents may apply for cooling assistance through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) beginning May 1.

Duley is asking all eligible applicants to contact Ninth District Opportunity, Inc.’s scheduling
system May 1, 2019 beginning at 8:30 A.M. by telephone at 855-636-3108 or go online
to www.ndo.org/eap.

Phone lines or website for scheduling will not be active until the opening date of the program and no appointments will be made by telephone or online until that time.

Duley said appointments will be scheduled until all funds are exhausted, but if there are funds left over, the general public will be able to apply beginning June 3.

LIHEAP is a federally-funded program that is designed to assist low-income, elderly and disabled Georgians with cooling costs through direct payments to home energy suppliers.
