NGPG reminds residents staying home is the best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19

As the spread of COVID-19 continues in Toccoa-Stephens County, NGPG Nurse Practitioner Travis Dobbs reminds residents to stay home as much as possible.

Dobbs says the most effective way to reduce the risk of contracting the coronavirus is to follow a few safety steps.

“The health system is just asking patients to follow some simple steps to protect themselves and their loved ones. The first is to stay at home, this is really critical, only leave for trips that are absolutely necessary, like getting groceries or medications. Monitor your symptoms at home, paying close attention to symptoms like  fever or persistent cough; you can also have GI symptoms, mild fatigue, or sore throat. If you feel the need to leave your home for care, please call before you come, call your doctor’s office first to discuss your symptoms,” he said.

If someone develops respiratory symptoms or other illnesses, Dobbs recommends contacting your primary care physician’s office prior to coming in for treatment.

If you believe your symptoms are related to COVID-19, Dobbs ask that you contact your Primary Care Physician’s office to determine if you should be tested for the virus.

“So people who are experiencing respiratory symptoms or other symptoms consistent with COVID-19, we encourage them to call their primary care provider to discuss next steps. You can also complete an e-visit at ngpg.org/evisit at home at any time of the day,” he said.

At NGPG there are various options for a virtual visit, which Dobbs says will help prevent the spread of the virus.

“We have Zoom or they can use FaceTime, whichever is convenient. They can just reach out to their provider’s office and they will let them know if it’s appropriate depending on symptoms,” he says.

Additionally, Dobbs recommends the community remain vigilant against the virus by staying home.

He adds that anyone wishing to help against the spread of COVID-19 you can visit nghs.com/coronavirus.

“They can visit nghs.com/coronavirus to get information on how they can give to our COVID-19 relief fund and volunteer at any of our canvases and contribute by sewing masks and gowns,” he said. “We do have a critical national shortage of personal protective equipment.”
