The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office recently held the first annual Stephens County Food and Toy Run, where more than $2,600 in donations and more than 100 bags of toys and food were collected and presented to the Stephens County Food2Kids organization to help local children and families in need.

The Toccoa Fire Department is looking for motivated and driven individuals to join the Department. Prior firefighting experience is appreciated but not required. Applications can be picked up at either Toccoa Fire Station or online on the city of Toccoa Website. For more information, contact Assistant Fire Chief Frankie Deitz at (706) 282-3347. 


A reminder that the Stephens County Polar Express will be back on the road tonight, visiting at the Stephens County Recreation Department on Rose Lane from 6 – 8 p.m., and then again tomorrow, Dec. 13 (DEC. 13 SCHEDULE CHANGED FROM ORIGINAL SCHEDULE), arriving at the Tom’s Creek Baptist Church at 5:30 p.m., where it will stay until 6 p.m., then visiting Ebenezer Baptist Church from 6:15 – 6:45 p.m., The Pointe Church from 7 – 7:30 p.m., and Christ Fellowship Church from 8 – 8:30 p.m. On December 20th, the Polar Express will make its final run of the 2023 season, visiting Chick-Fil-A from 5:30 – 6:15 p.m., New Hope Baptist Church from 6:30-7 p.m., and Sunnyside Baptist Church from 7:15 – 8:15 p.m. In addition to handing out candy and giving children a chance to visit with Santa, the Polar Express will be taking donations for the food drive for Food2Kids at each stop on the Polar Express. Stephens County 911 Communications Officer Cody Weaver was recently presented with a Lifesaver Award, which is earned when a 911 communications officer gives CPR instructions to a caller that ultimately assists in saving a person’s life. Stephens County Emergency Management Director Danielle Rhodes stated, “As a result of Cody’s action, training and quick thinking, a life was saved.”
