New Pavillion to be Built at Lake Toccoa

The City of Toccoa is planning the construction of a new pavillion at Lake Toccoa.

At their work session this week, City Commissioner heard from City Manager Billy Morse regarding the bids that have come in for the work.

Morse said out of all of the bidders, one company in Habersham County stood out.

“We received multiple proposals for kit pavillions. In other words, they provide the materials and you assemble it yourself,” Morse said. “The lowest bidder on that list was $96,000. That was the Fifth Room quote, which was really just a glorified picnic shelter. Compare that with the proposal from Woodstar Timbers that includes all the pieces, plus construction of those pieces and finish. That price was $63,200.”

Woodstar Timbers is based in Hollywood, Georgia.

Their bid did not include a planned fireplace for the new pavillion nor installation of the roof, but Morse said Toccoa crews would put the roof on and build the fireplace at a later date.

No local companies submitted bids, but Commissioner Jeanette Jamieson noted it was important to hire companies at least within the state.

“I am strongly, strongly for keeping it in Stephens County if we could, but we don’t have a bid from anyone in Stephens County. So, certainly keep it in the State of Georgia,” Jamieson said.

At their regular meeting, the Commission voted unanimously to hire Woodstar Timbers to build the new pavillion.

Morse estimated construction on the new pavillion would take about five months to complete.

The City hopes to have it completed by June, 2019.
