New GA Laws Now in Effect

A number of new laws are now in effect in Georgia.

New legislation passed by the 2017 Georgia General Assembly and signed by Governor Nathan Deal went into effect on Saturday.

One of the more controversial laws is the new Campus Carry law.

This law says that guns are now allowed on any state college or university campus.

The only time a gun is banned in a college classroom is if a high school student is in the class.

Another new law as of July 1st is Senate Bill 16, which expands the medical conditions in which cannibis oil may be administered.

Also, House Bill 338 is now law.

This bill gives the State the authority to step in if a school is under-performing.

In such a case, the state will assign a Chief Turnaround Officer to fix the problem and if that doesn’t work, the State can then turn the public school into a charter school.

Finally, there are tougher DUI laws now in place in Georgia.

Anyone convicted of driving under the influence could be required to use a new device that will prevent them from starting their car.

It’s called an “ignition interlock device.”

The driver must blow into it in order for their car to start, and they must continue to blow into it every few minutes to keep the vehicle running.
