NE GA Lake Region Promotes Tourism

The northeast Georgia lake region is actively promoting tourism in the area.

A new display has been placed in the Georgia Visitors Center on south bound I-85 just as you enter Georgia from South Carolina.

The display welcomes tourists into the four county area bordering lakes Hartwell and Russell.

It’s the latest project completed by the Northeast Georgia Lake Region, a cooperative effort of five chambers of commerce.

The display is located in the main lobby of the welcome center and it is available to travelers from 8am to 11pm to pick up brochures and take notes of sites and activities available around Lake Hartwell and Russell.

The Northeast Georgia Lake Region is comprised of Toccoa-Stephens County, Franklin County, Lavonia, Hart County, and Elbert County Chambers of Commerce.

The coalition promotes tourism by pointing out the many attractions available for day trips, weekends and vacations.

Tourism is Georgia’s second largest industry and nearly 1000 cars a day stop at the visitor’s center.

According to statistics provided by Shawnta Beasley, Manager of the I-85 Georgia Visitors center, Tourism supports 280 local jobs, generates $35.5 million in direct spending, and creates $1.02 million in local tax revenue.
