National Weather Service warns of torrential rainfall

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Stephens and surrounding counties.

At 4 a.m. this morning, the heat advisory for the region was lifted, but the National Weather Service issued the following hazardous weather watch regarding thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.

Numerous to widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop again across the region this afternoon and evening. The slowly-moving showers will produce locally very heavy rainfall and isolated flash flooding could develop. A few of the thunderstorms could become severe, with damaging wind gusts being the primary threat.

Dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning will accompany any of the storms as well. The showers and thunderstorms could linger into the overnight hours tonight.

Additional heavy-rain producing showers and thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday and Tuesday night. The threat of localized flash flooding along streams and nuisance flooding of poor drainage areas will continue.

WNEG News will continue to monitor National Weather Service advisories and provide updates online and on our social media accounts as additional information becomes available.
