National Weather Service Reiterates Increased Fire Danger, More Freezing Weather

Following up on yesterday’s weather warnings, the National Weather Service, in a early-morning bulletin, said a cold, dry air mass will continue to move into the region today. Breezy northerly winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph are expected to develop behind a secondary cold front early today, while critical relative humidity values of 20 to 25 percent are expected Wednesday afternoon. These conditions, combined with dry fuels, will enhance the potential for wildfires to spread quickly. NWS officials urge using extreme caution when burning outdoors, fires can quickly get out of control in these conditions.

Also, while the freeze watch that went into effect at midnight last night expires at 10 a.m. this morning. NWS forecasts state “a widespread freeze is also expected Wednesday night into daybreak Thursday, with lows ranging from 25 to 30 degrees. These temperatures will likely kill any tender vegetation left outdoors.”
