National Day of Prayer slated for May 2

Thursday is the National Day of Prayer and as it happens every year, people will be gathering on the lawn of the Historic Stephens County Courthouse tomorrow afternoon to pray for our Country and its leaders.

This year’s theme is “Love one Another” and comes from the verse John 13:34 which reads “Love one another. Just as I have loved you.”

People are encouraged to pray tomorrow for America in two main areas:

First, for leaders in America to come together to provide strategic leadership that will result in righteousness and peaceful living.

And second, to pray for unity in the Body of Christ in America.

The National Day of Prayer was created 67 years ago in 1952, by a joint resolution of Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

In 1988, the law was unanimously amended by both the House and the Senate and signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on Thursday, May 5, 1988, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer.

Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.

And if you are unable to attend the live service tomorrow you can listen live.

WNEG will have live coverage of Thursday’s National Day of Prayer Service beginning at noon.

You can also watch the live National Day of Prayer event in Washington, DC tomorrow night, from 7:30p to 9p via live streaming on nationaldayofprayer.org, or on GodTV or DayStar TV.
