National Airborne Day events planned for Toccoa-Stephens County

National Airborne Day is coming up next month and in Toccoa-Stephens County, the Round Canopy Parachuting Team will be hosting the Camp Toccoa Currahee Run to commemorate the day and honor airborne veterans past and present.

According to organizer John Wallace, on August 16, the day will feature a number of activities; but one event is open to the public.

He says at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, a group will be going up Currahee Mountain for the Currahee Run. The public is invited to take part in the run/walk.

Wallace says the goal of the Round Canopy Parachuting Team is to broaden the awareness of the sacrifices that our airborne veterans bore for our freedoms enjoyed today and to provide an opportunity for all veterans and the general public to share in a day of comradery.
