Knoxville woman facing multiple drug charges after I-85 chase

A speeding vehicle over Labor Day led to a high-speed chase and a drug bust.

It happened last Saturday, September 1 on I-85.

According to Commander Sgt. Tracy Webb with the Hartwell Post of the Georgia State Patrol, an alert motorist called Franklin County 911 to report a Mercedes driving recklessly on I-85 northbound.

“A Franklin County deputy spotted the speeding vehicle and initiated a traffic stop,” Webb said. “The vehicle stopped for a moment, but once the deputy got out of his cruiser she took off up the Interstate. I had two troopers up at Exit 177. The driver spotted the troopers and got off at that exit and went back over the interstate, and that’s where the State Patrol got involved. They got into a pursuit as she went back onto I-85 southbound.”

Webb said the driver continued to drive recklessly at a high rate of speed on I-85 southbound so his troopers used the pit maneuver to stop the car.

Once stopped the driver was arrested.  She is identified as Hollie Evans of Knoxville, Tennessee, age unknown.

“After she was taken into custody she was found to be possession of approximately 10lbs of methamphetamine, heroin, cociane, ecstacy and some marijuana,” Webb said.

A list of drug and traffic charges are pending against Evans from the Georgia State Patrol. She remains in the Franklin County jail.

Sgt. Webb thanked the Franklin County Sheriff’s office for their assistance in the incident.
