MST will dedicate historic plaque for Stan Smith at the Currahee Military Museum

Main Street Toccoa has announced that a historic plaque will be placed inside the Currahee Military Museum in recognition of the legacy of Stanley “Stan” Ralph Smith.

According to Main Street Manager Christian Hamilton, the plaque will be placed on Saturday, August 20, at 11 a.m.

Hamilton says Smith passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021.

He was a lover of local history and helped to create and guide multiple local history groups, including the Stephens County Georgia History Club and the Toccoa City Adventurers.

Over the last several years, Hamilton says, Smith assisted the City of Toccoa with the implementation of its historic plaque program and walking guide.

The plaque dedication will be held inside the Currahee Military Museum.

Attendees of the plaque ceremony are asked to enter through the Museum Gift Shop entrance, where they will be directed to the plaque location.

Hamilton says the Main Street Office is happy to answer any questions regarding the City of Toccoa’s Historic Plaque Program.
