Mrs. Velma Lathene Cawthon Gettys

Mrs. Velma Lathene Cawthon Gettys, age 100, of Toccoa, GA, passed away on July 3, 2022 at her home.

Born October 15, 1921 in the Reed Creek Community of Hart County, she was the daughter of the late Jeff P. and Evie Mae Wright Cawthon.

She was a member of Welcome Faith Baptist Church and was a strong Christian woman that loved the Lord.  She cherished her family and was a beloved mother and grandmother.  Mrs. Gettys worked for Coats & Clark for over 30 years, was an Avon Representative for 20 years and was an avid gardener.

Family members include daughters Frances Norris of Toccoa, GA, Joann Flanigan of Carnesville, GA, and Annette Myers of Toccoa, GA; sons Grady Gettys of Toccoa, GA, Dwight Gettys of Eastanollee, GA, and Donnie Gettys of Franklin County, GA; 30 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Ben “Buck” Gettys; son Ray Gettys; daughter Cathryn Blaylock; sisters Carroll Bray, Inez Cawthon, Ruth Smith, Naomi Ellard, Ann Williams and Betty Pierce; and brothers W. C. Cawthon, John Henry Cawthon, James Cawthon, Glynn Cawthon, Lynn Cawthon, and Willie Cawthon..

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 11:00 until the service hour on Friday, July 8, 2022.

Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 1:00 o’clock with Rev. Ray Bohannon and Rev. John Thomas officiating.

Burial will follow at Roselane Cemetery.

The following will serve as pallbearers:  Jason Kimbrell, Michael Gettys, Shannon Gettys, Chris Hanley, Brantley Moore, Logan Roberts, Marty Roberts, and Lou Helms.
