Mrs. Sarah Joyce Rogers Gregory

Mrs. Sarah Joyce Rogers Gregory, age 88 of North Avenue, Eastanollee passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at the Stephens County Hospital.

A daughter of the late Vaughn Richard Rogers and Pearl Barron Rogers, she was born September 29, 1935 in Habersham County, Georgia having lived in Stephens County, Georgia most of her life. She was a graduate of Stephens County High School.  She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Piedmont College, Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia and a Six Year Degree from Clemson University.  As an educator for the Stephens County School System, she served as a teacher, guidance counselor and after retirement as a substitute teacher. After retirement, she volunteered numerous hours to the Stephens County Hospital Auxiliary and gift shop, community food bank and precinct elections. She was also employed part-time at the Georgia-South Carolina Welcome Center.

Her hobbies included flower gardening, quilting, painting, sewing, beaded Christmas trees, word search and sudoku.  Later in life, she took lessons in playing the piano and dulcimer.  She was a dedicated grandmother and first rate cattle farm hand.  She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and the Encouragers small group.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Caudell, her second husband, Ferman Gregory, two brothers, Billy Rogers and Harold Rogers and sister-in-law, Maxine Rogers.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Kesler of Athens, Tennessee; five granddaughters and their husbands, Lindsey and Travis Ansel of Prospect, Kentucky, Katherine and Bill Dabbs of Knoxville, Tennessee, Haley Kesler of Knoxville, Tennessee, Hannah and Zach Dillon of Black Mountain, North Carolina and Mia and Jake Taylor of Knoxville, Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren, Aaron and Thomas Ansel, Maggie and Jack Dabbs, Forrest, Kit, Eli and Joanna Mozelle Dillon; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Jim Hunnicutt of Lavonia, Georgia; brother, Clifford Rogers of Watkinsville, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Linda Rogers of Toccoa, Anne Rogers of Eastanollee and Jean Trotter of Gainesville; a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 22, 2024, 11 o’clock a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with The Reverend Andy Childs and The Reverend Jamie Smith officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Aaron Ansel, Jerrell Beatty, Michael Jarrett, Shan Hunnicutt, Ricky Hames, David Rogers and Danny Rogers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Wilkinson Center and special caregiver, Helen Jarrett.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday, January 21, 2024, 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Entombment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with The Reverend Jerrell Beatty officiating.
