Mrs. Sara Jean Peeples

Mrs. Sara Jean Peeples, age 91 of Athens and formerly of Toccoa passed away Monday, October 4, 2021 at Lanier Gardens, Athens, Georgia.

A daughter of the late Doc and Julia Davis Smith, she was born July 8, 1930 in Stephens County, Georgia where she had lived most of her life and the last 21 years in Athens.  She was a long-time member of Sunnyside Baptist Church while living in Toccoa and now a member of New Prospect Church. She had a deep love for her family, friends, her faith and food.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, S.P. Peeples, Jr., sister, Mildred Tims and by two brothers, R.L. Smith and Jack Smith.

Survivors include nephews and nieces, John and Darlene DeFoor, John and Tina Smith, Buster and Vickie Smith and Susan and Bill Turner all of Toccoa; sisters-in-law, Mary Smith and Faye Peeples both of Toccoa; brother-in-law, Quinton Peeples of Eastanollee.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 9, 2021, 3 O’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Bill Evans and The Reverend Tom Atkins officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Matthew DeFoor, Ian Rumsey, Evan Rumsey, Chaz Poole, Ethan McCreight and Scott Rumsey.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the service time.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Due to the health and well-being of the community, social distancing is encouraged and masks during the visitation and service.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Sara Jean Smith Peeples.
