Mrs. Sara Heaton Childs

Mrs. Sara Heaton Childs, age 93, of Toccoa, GA, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at her home.

Born on October 3, 1928 in Stephens County, she was the daughter of the late John Lee and Sadie Woods Heaton.

She was of the Baptist Faith and was a homemaker.  She loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family.  She also enjoyed gardening and her flowers.  Sara was famous for her apple pies.

Family members include a daughter, Peggy Vaughn (Gary) of Toccoa; sons Claude Childs (Susan) and Charlie Ray Childs, Jr. (Rhonda), both of Toccoa; son-in-law James Kennedy of Carnesville, GA; sister Betsy Yearwood of Toccoa; brothers John Heaton and Jerry Heaton, both of Toccoa; grandchildren Gina Murley (Chris), April Stallings (Josh), Byron Kennedy, Josh Vaughn, Katie Brown (Andy), Joni Whitfield (Wes), Dr. Christopher Childs (fiancé Dr. Lisa Vences), Chandler Childs and Clayton Childs; and great-grandchildren Adalee Brown, Titus Brown, Ezra Brown, Abby Whitfield, Jake Whitfield, Colby Ayers, Lindsey Ayers, Mason Stallings, Ansley Murley, Sophia Murley and Jaxson Murley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Ray Childs, Sr.; daughter Cheryl Kennedy; sisters Lois Martin and Dorothy (Tim) Heaton; and brothers Harold Heaton and Carlton Heaton.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o’clock Sunday, July 24, 2022 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Jerrell Beatty and the Rev. Byron Kennedy officiating.

Burial will follow at Roselane Cemetery.

The following grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers:  Byron Kennedy, Josh Vaughn, Christopher Childs, Chandler Childs, Clayton Childs, Colby Ayers, Mason Stallings and Jake Whitfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tates Creek Baptist Church.
