Mrs. Mary Frances Gordon Vaughan Duncan 

Mary was born February 20, 1926 in Atlanta, Ga. She was 96 years old when she passed away on 02/25/2022 at her home in Woodstock, Ga.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at H. M. Patterson Funeral Home (Canton Hill Chapel), 1157 Old Canton Road, Marietta, Ga.

Graveside service will be on Friday March 4, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Stephens Memorial Gardens, 3650 Ga Hwy 17 (Big A Road), Toccoa, Ga.

Mary was the daughter of Henry Roy Gordon and Grace Andrews. She graduated from Franklin County High School in 1943 and married James Vaughan in 1945. She raised and is survived by her 3 children, Beverly Swancy (Carter), Connie Albigese and Douglas Vaughan (Karen).

Mary was a full-time homemaker for many years while raising her three children to school age. In 1963 she and James moved from Toccoa to Marietta, where James worked at Lockheed. Mary began working in the elementary school cafeteria, first at Mt. View and then at Kincaid. They attended Sandy Plains Baptist Church.

Following James’ death in 1976 Mary married Charlie Duncan in 1977. Charlie had two daughters, which Mary is also survived by, Selena Hill (Sam) and Ellen Duncan. They retired in the early 1980’s and enjoyed many years of gardening and canning, square dancing, travel, collecting antiques, holiday meals and activities with their children and grandchildren. Mary was a great cook and was very energetic in all her activities. Grandy will be greatly missed, and her famous cookie jar will be fondly remembered.

Mary is survived by her husband, Charlie Duncan; 5 children,; 10 grandchildren, Brad Swancy, Wes Swancy (Charlotte), Drew Swancy (Emily), Tara Van Ness, Matt Albigese, Michael Vaughan (Angelyn), Laura Hyer (Dan), Elizabeth Johnson-Greaux (Drew), Allison Ventura (Joe), Bryant Helms (Daphne); and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mary is also survived by her sister, Peggy Taylor (Edwin) and brother, James Gordon (Barbara). Mary was preceded in death by two sisters, Marguerite Smith and Patsy Garland.
