Mrs. Joan Cogburn Nobles

Mrs. Joan Cogburn Nobles, age 86 of Suwanee, Georgia and formerly of Toccoa passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Brickmont of John’s Creek Assisted Living, Cumming, Georgia.

 

A daughter of the late Stevens Clinton Cogburn, Sr. and Hattie Lou Logue Cogburn, she was born November 14, 1936, in Edgefield, South Carolina where she lived for a number of years before moving to Toccoa in 1973.  She was a 1954 graduate of Edgefield High School.  She graduated from The University of South Carolina for her undergraduate degree and Clemson University for her master’s degree.  She was a retired schoolteacher with 40 years of service and served 24 years of that service with Toccoa Elementary before retiring in 1997. Joan had a very strong faith and accepted Christ as her savior at the age of 12.  She loved selflessly and sacrificed often for her family. Joan was kind, gentle, patient and was always there with a smile or to provide a helping hand to her friends and family. She was a member of Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church in Edgefield, South Carolina, the church where she grew up, and later attended First Baptist Church in Toccoa after her move to Georgia.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Hugh “Ray” Nobles, by her brothers, Ben, John, Avery and Ike Cogburn and sisters, Ruby Mae Timmerman, Rebecca James, Sue Cogburn and Rhett O’Neal.

 

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh and Lori Nobles of Suwanee, Georgia and Ben and Tracy Nobles of Madison, Georgia; grandsons, Zach of Madison, Georgia, Landon and TJ of Marietta, Georgia; granddaughters, Olivia of Madison, Georgia and Lena of Suwanee, Georgia; sister, Helen Hare of Edgefield, South Carolina.

 

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, June 17, 2023, 3 o’clock p.m. at the First Baptist Church with The Reverend Brett Sanders and The Reverend David Ritcey officiating.

 

The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Chapel on Saturday from 1 p.m. until time for the service.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

 

As a former teacher, “The family would be honored if any of her former students wished to attend the Celebration of Life, or to serve as pallbearers or honorary pallbearers.”

 

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Joan Cogburn Nobles.
