Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Patricia Anderson Johnson

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Patricia Anderson Johnson age 100, of Toccoa, passed away Sunday, November 19,2023 at the Clary Care Center.

Born August 9,1923 in Tugaloo, GA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Edward and Ethel Mae Bennett Anderson.

Mrs. Johnson lived most of her life in Toccoa, GA.  Her father worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority and Georgia Power Company building dams and lakes on the Tennessee and Tugaloo rivers.  The family moved from time to time with his work, but always returned to Toccoa.  She graduated from Toccoa High School in 1941.

Mrs. Johnson was a dedicated and loving wife and mother.  She was the chief cook, bottle washer, family chauffeur, soother of aches, pains, cuts, and bruises, source of much love and affection, and a disciplinarian when necessary.  She had a good sense of humor and viewed every new day as a blessing.  She played golf for many years and had a regular group with which she played with.  She also played bridge for many years.  She was a member of the Toccoa First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for fifty-one years and was passionate about her church and her family. She enjoyed playing the piano and played for the Men’s Bible Class and for Sunday services.  She was a member and past president of the Toccoa Women’s Club.  She loved flowers and spent many hours in her yard raising azaleas, roses, hostas and other lilies, and other plants and flowers.

Family members include her children, Bobby Johnson and Fran, of Savannah, GA, Trisha Johnson, of Atlanta, Sam Johnson, of Clarkesville, GA, Melanie Smith and Gregg, of Gainesville, GA.; grandchildren Bo Johnson and Jenny of Savannah, GA and Brooke Gaynor and Ryan, of Arlington, VA; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Johnson, of Tallahassee, FL, Emily Johnson of Savannah, GA, Rachel Gaynor of Arlington, VA; cousin, Betty Guest of Seneca, SC; sister-in-law, Glenda Anderson Leonard and Stephen of Vidalia, GA; and three nieces and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius M. Johnson to whom she was married for 58 years.  They met while working at Letourneau during World War II.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul Anderson.

The family will receive friends from 2pm until 2:45pm at McNeeley Fellowship Hall at the First United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at three o’clock Sunday, November 26, 2023, at The First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brent White and the Rev. April Briant officiating.

A private graveside service will be held at Stephens Memorial Gardens.
