Mrs. Doris Walker Bowers Payne

Mrs. Doris Walker Bowers Payne, age 81, of Hartwell, passed away Friday, August 14, 2020 at Hart Care Center in Hartwell, GA.

Born March 13, 1939 in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late H. C. “Slick” and Lura Mize Walker.  She was of the Christian Faith.  Doris retired from Coats & Clark and later was a caregiver at the Clary Care Center in Toccoa.

Family members include her daughters and son-in-law, Rhonda Bowers of Hoschton, GA and Teresa Bowers Arrowood and Mark of Toccoa, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Suzanne Bowers of Houston, TX and Don Bowers of Hartwell, GA; step-daughters and son-in-law Angie Canady of Toccoa, GA, and Brenda and Richard Smith of Toccoa, GA; grandchildren and spouses, Brooke Farmer of Mt. Airy, GA, Julia Sosebee of Martin, GA, John Sosebee of Baldwin, GA, Tanda Garland Evans of Lawrenceville, GA, Tara Bowers O’Connor and Ian of Augusta, GA, Dillon Dominey of Houston, TX, Luke Dominey of Houston, TX, Stephen Bowers and Ava of Royson, GA, Justus Bowers of Royston, GA and Judah Bowers of Pensacola, FL; great-grandchildren, Trey Smith, Charlie Pitts, Jackson Pitts, Lilly O’Conner, Rose O’Conner, and Sterling Evans III; siblings and their spouses, Jessie Walker Nicholson of Jackson, GA, Haden Walker of Toccoa, GA, Ab Walker of Marietta, GA, her twin brother, Donald “Duck” Walker of Villa Rica, GA, Helen and Grady Nunnally of Douglasville, GA, Belton and Robbie Walker of Hartwell, GA, Roger and Linda Walker of Martin, GA, Olin Walker of Homer, GA, and Ollie Walker Kellar of Toccoa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Cleophas Walker; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Lewis Mason; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Walker, Joan Walker, Joann Walker, and Kathleen Walker, a son-in-law, Bernard Evans II; and step-granddaughter, Crystal Payne.

Due to the conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family has chosen to have an outdoor celebration of life service for their mother at Whitlock Mortuary.  The service will be at two o’clock Saturday, September 5, 2020 with the visitation beginning at 12 noon. 

A meal will follow at Tom’s Creek Baptist Church Family Life Center.
