Mr. William Colen Maxwell, III

Mr. William Colen Maxwell, III, age 83, of Toccoa, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2021.

Born May 12, 1938 in Stephens County, he was the son of William Colen Maxwell, II and late Pearl Lily Stockton Maxwell Smith.

Mr. Maxwell was of the Baptist Faith and was a retired Lieutenant with Clark County Law Enforcement. He graduated from Brenau College with a Bachelors in Criminal Law.   William was a United States Navy Veteran with 21 years of service and he was also a United States Army Veteran with 2 years of service.

Family members include his wife, Norma Templeton Maxwell of the home; son, Richard Martin Maxwell; daughter, Tonya Julianne Maxwell; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his son, William Steven Maxwell.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary form 6pm – 8pm Thursday, September 16, 2021.

Graveside services will be held at two o’clock Friday, September 17, 2021 at Old Currahee Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Roger Elrod officiating.

Burial will follow with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and V. F. W. Post 4346.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Foundation for the Deaf in honor of his grandson, John Henry Maxwell.

Due to community health concerns, we encourage those attending visitation and the service to wear a mask and to continue to practice social distancing.
