Mr. Thomas Alton Norris

Mr. Thomas Alton “Tom” Norris, age 90, passed away at his home on June 21, 2022.  A native to Georgia, he was born on February 11, 1932, in Royston, and lived in Toccoa with the majority of his life in Martin.

Tom was the son of the late Claude Frank Norris and the late Nora Lake Gibson Norris.

In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Marlene Hicks Norris; his infant brother, Joe Frank Norris; sister, Frances Slaton; and brother, Haskell Norris.

Tom is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Odis and Tina Norris, of Martin, GA.  He leaves behind a special nephew, Ken Norris; along with special grandniece and grandnephew Casey and Blake Norris, all of Martin, Georgia.  He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews that will cherish his memory, and his sweet cat, Mickey Mouse.

Tom graduated from Lavonia High School and was a Korean War Veteran.  He received a Korean Service Medal W/1, Bronze Service Star – United Nations Service Medal – National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal AR600-65.  Tom received an honorable discharge on December 4, 1954.  When released from active military service he was transferred to Army Reserve to complete 8 years of service under the Universal Military Training and Service Act.

Tom worked, until retirement, at GEM Southeast in Toccoa, Georgia.

He was of Baptist faith and a member of Tom’s Creek Baptist Church.

Tom loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.

The family will receive friends at the Mortuary from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022.

Graveside services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at Franklin Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jeffrey Harper officiating.  Burial will follow.

Military honors will be provided by the Georgia Army National Guard.
