Mr. R.J. Spencer

Mr. R.J. Spencer, age 89 of Toccoa passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at the Oaks at Scenic View in Baldwin, Georgia.

 

A son of the late Early W. and Ellen Rider Spencer, he was born March 8, 1932 in Stephens County, Georgia where he lived all his life.  He was a retired drywall contractor and attended Old Toccoa Baptist Church. RJ was an accomplished musician, who played in various country and bluegrass bands throughout the Southeast for more than 75 years. RJ was the founder of the Brandy Rock Mountain Band and played in many others. He was a feature fiddle player for several bands and theatres. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

 

Survivors include his wife of the home, Evelyn Bowden Spencer; daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Keith Holland of Lavonia; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Teresa Spencer of Toccoa; grandchildren, Heather and Dr. Josh Barnes, Dr. Hayley Spencer, Houston Spencer and Heath Holland; great-grandchildren, Barrett Barnes and Blakely Barnes; a number of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 3, 2022, 2 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Paul Jameson and The Reverend Bill Evans officiating.  The pallbearers will be grandsons, Houston Spencer and Heath Holland, brother in-law James Bowden, great nephews Ron and Cody Fulbright and close family friends Tommy Slagle and Charles Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Barnes, Barrett Barnes, Stuart Rimland, nephews Ronald and Tony Fulbright.

 

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday from noon until the service time.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

 

Interment will follow in the Old Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mr. R.J. Spencer.
