Mr. James Smith

Mr. James A. Smith, age 60, of the Rock Creek Community, Toccoa, GA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 12, 2020 at Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, GA.

On January 20, 2020, James suffered burns and smoke inhalation in a house fire while attempting to rescue his constant companion, his dog named Abraham. James fought a good fight for 4 months, but could not overcome his injuries.
James was born in Tennessee on January 2, 1960 and was the son of the late John Lewis and Willie Sue Smith. He lived in Toccoa for majority of his life.

James loved to fish and spent many hours on the lake bass fishing with his son Josh. He also had a knack for fixing things and could tackle any project, especially working on cars. He was often times called on by family and friends to be their shadetree mechanic. James attended Liberty Hill Church and was not ashamed to share his faith in Jesus with others. James was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and friend.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Janice Cobb Smith of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Beth Smith of Toccoa; granddaughter, Tennasyn Smith of Toccoa; brothers, Lewis Smith and Neal Smith; sisters, Brenda Busha, Paula Bailey, Shirley Allen, and Peggy Britton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Herman Smith; a sister, Pearl Youngblood; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lavenia and Roy Lee Cobb.
Due to the conditions concerning the health and well-being of our community, the family will not be receiving friends or having a public service at this time.
