Mr. James Preston Whiten

Mr. James Preston Whiten, age 84, of Toccoa, passed away April 6, 2024 at his home.

 

Born July 19, 1939 in Franklin County, GA, he was the son of the late Dwight Preston and Lutrelle Keller Whiten.

 

James was born in Franklin County and had lived his adult life in Stephens County.  He owned and operated James Whiten Livestock.  He enjoyed farming, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  James was a Director of Stephens County Farm Bureau for many years and was awarded Friend of Agriculture for Stephens County in 2013.  He enjoyed helping others and was a huge supporter of the FFA.  James was a member of Mullins Ford Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Betty Turner Whiten, and his sisters, Gail Whiten and Joyce McDougal.

 

Family members include his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Gordon Garner; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and April Whiten; grandchildren, Dottie and Brett Ivester, Dylan Garner, Evan Whiten, Marlee Whiten, and Chandler Fowler; great-grandchildren, Brentley Ivester and Emma Grace Ivester; brothers and sister-in-law, Morris and Ann Whiten and Kayle Whiten; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 12 noon until the funeral hour on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

 

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with the Rev. Jerrell Beatty and the Rev. Roger Elrod officiating.

 

Burial will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens.

 

Dylan Garner, Evan Whiten, Chandler Fowler, Brentley Ivester, Brett Ivester and Austin Huff will serve as pallbearers.

 

Flowers are optional.  Memorial donations may be made to Stephens County FFA, 323 Indian Trail, Toccoa, GA 30577.
