Mr. Harry Leonard Biering

Mr. Harry Leonard Biering, age 83, of Toccoa, passed away Friday, April 28, 2023 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born April 10, 1940 in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late Edward Marion and Mary Selma Cribb Biering.

Mr. Biering attended John’s Island High School in John’s Island, SC.  His civil service career started in 1958 with the Charleston Naval Shipyard in Charleston, SC as an Engineering Student Trainee (Co-Op) in the Design Division.  He graduated from Auburn University in 1964 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering while in the Co-Op Program.  He retired in 1995 from Southern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command with 36 years of service.  He was a member of The Pointe Church in Toccoa.  He enjoyed fishing and repairing anything that needed fixing for anyone in need of help.  He loved God, country, family and friends, and had a passionate love for Israel and the Jewish people.

Family members include his wife, Terry Allen Biering of the home; sons Marcus O. Biering of Stone Mountain, GA and Jeffrey D. Biering of New York City; brother and sister-in-law, Henry Elton Biering and Carol of Charleston, SC; sister-in-law, Mary Biering of Johns Island, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Marion, Manley, Frederick, Tommy, and Wesley Biering; sisters Christine Brown and Iva Jean McGrew; and special friend, Rev. Fred Sylvester.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 12 noon until 1:45 pm Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Thursday, May 4, 2023 from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary with Pastor Chad Smith and Pastor Jerry Chitwood officiating.

Burial will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Robbie Day, Nate Doan, Roy Young, Paul Manning, Keith Franks and William Payne.

Special thanks to the medical teams at Stephens County Hospital and Northeast GA Medical Center in Gainesville for their care and services during Harry’s hospital stay.
