Mr. George August Peterson

Mr. George August Peterson, age 87, of Toccoa, passed away Friday, June 23, 2023 at his home.

Born December 2, 1935, in Lander, PA, he was the son of the late George Alden Peterson and Ruth Eleanor Spencer Brady

He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1953 – 1956 and he served during Korean Conflict.  George was a member of the American Legion Post 104 and was a plant manager with Schlosser Forge for 24 years.

Family members include his wife of the home, Mary Joan Peterson; sons and daughters-in-law, David Laroy Peterson and Michelle and Kenneth George Peterson and Carol; daughter and son-in-law, Joan Eleanor Sullens and Lester; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers and a sister-in-law, Ronald Conrad Peterson and Tina; sisters and brothers-in-law,  Carol Von Wald and Rev. Lee Von Wald, Janice Ayers and Terry, and Doris Rex and Jerry; brother-in-law, David Page; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his son, George Robert Peterson; his sisters, Lucy Barbara McClaren and Ruth Page; and his brothers, Butch Peterson and Leroy Clyde Peterson.

The family will receive friends at Ebenezer Baptist Church from 1pm – 2:45 pm Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at three o’clock Tuesday, June 27, 2023 with Dr. Jamie Smith, Mr. Kenneth Peterson, and the Rev. Andy Childs officiating.

Burial will follow at Stephens Memorial Gardens with Military Honors provided by the United States Army.  William Tucker will render Taps.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; John Mason, Ryan Peterson, Roger Herrick, Jeff Pearson, Kenneth Peterson, and David Peterson.

The Encouragers Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers and will meet at the church on Tuesday.
