Mr. Fred O. Finley

Mr. Fred O. Finley, age 82 passed away peacefully at his residence in Toccoa on Thursday, April 13, 2023.

A son of the late William Fred and Eunice Sosebee Finley, he was born July 1, 1940 in Toccoa, Georgia.  He was an active member of Old Toccoa Baptist Church.  He was a graduate of Eastanollee High School, Class of 1958 and Piedmont College.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, stationed in Hawaii. He was employed by the Department of Natural Resources in the Environment Protection Division for 30 years.  Upon retirement, he began working for the Georgia Rural Water Association.  In his later years, he enjoyed gardening with a special interest in cultivating native species.  His most treasured times were spent with his family and studying World War II history.  He recently enjoyed a father-daughter trip to Kansas City, Missouri visiting the Truman Presidential Library and the Truman home site along with good old-fashioned barbeque and chocolate anything.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Crawford Finley.

He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Finley Little and son-in-law, Matt; grandson, Brandon Brotherton and granddaughters, Cayden and Olivia Little of Lawrenceville, Georgia; a long-time special friend, Sara Steele of Toccoa; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Jane Finley of Toccoa; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and David Mitchell of Martin, Georgia; nieces and nephews, Ben Finley of Alpharetta, Georgia, Melissa and Gary Pera of Daly City, California, Randy and Cheryl Mitchell of Salisbury, Maryland,  Leann and Chad Cleveland of Bogart, Georgia and Amy and Jeff Kerwood of Canton, Georgia; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 16, 2023, 3 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. Roy Rogers and The Reverend Todd McCollum officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Brandon Brotherton, Ben Finley, Randy Mitchell, Tony Sosebee, Chad Cleveland and Jeff Kerwood.
