Mr. Claude Benjamin Alewine, Jr.

Mr. Claude Benjamin Alewine, Jr. age 95 of Lavonia, GA, passed away July 4, 2022 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born February 28, 1927 in Stephens County, he was the son of the late Claude Benjamin Alewine, Sr. and the late Nobie Weaver Alewine.  He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was instrumental in the planning and building of the Church. Mr. Alewine and was retired from General Motors was a World War II Army Veteran.

Family members include his faithful, loving wife of 75 years, Jimmie Catherine Bell Alewine of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Vanessa Alewine of Suwanee, GA; Wanda and Marvin Maddox of Lavonia, GA; grandchildren, Stacey Alewine and Brian, Blake and Tiffany Alewine, Ryan Shaw, Clint and Jaylah Shaw, Michael Workman, and Jennifer Clegg and Moe; great-grandchildren, Casey Cole, Claire Cole, Collette Alewine, Caitlyn and Corey Miller, Chloe Clegg, and Cierra Clegg; great-great-grandchild, Emani Miller; siblings, Julie and Billy Herrin and Charles Alewine.  He was preceded in death by his siblings, Max Alewine, James Alewine, Oren Alewine, and Lucius Alewine.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, Marcie Barrett, Jennifer Smith and Wanda Gettys and Tugalo Amedisys caregivers, Tara and Melissa; Dr. David Yates, Morgan Carter, and Dr. Stephen Pinkerton.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 12 noon until 1:30 on Friday, July 15, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at two o’clock Friday, July 15, 2022 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Young and the Rev. Jerrell Beatty officiating.

Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Georgia Army National Guard.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers; Ryan Shaw, Blake Alewine, Clint Shaw, Mike Workman, T. R. Dooley, and Keith Worley.
