Mr. Alfred Julius Leitgeb

Mr. Alfred “Al” Julius Leitgeb, age 92, of Toccoa passed away Monday, April 8, 2024 at The Wilkinson Center.

Born March 4, 1932 in Harlem, NY, he is the son of the late John Leitgeb, Sr. and the late Pauline Paukovits.

Mr. Leitgeb was a draftsman for Sperry, Gyroscope, Hazeltine, and Dempster, moving from NY to GA for a job opportunity as well as anticipating retirement.  He served as a United States Army Sergeant.  He also gave his time as a Literacy volunteer for many years and was a member of Grace Baptist Church.  As a high school student he earned the opportunity to play his clarinet at Carnegie Hall.  An avid bicyclist, he served as President of the Huntington Bike Club (New York).

Family members include his wife, Margaret Brown Scott Leitgeb; sons, Robert Leitgeb (Janice) of Toccoa, Arthur Leitgeb (Anita) of New York and Lawrence Leitgeb (Charlene) of Martin, GA; grandchildren, Linda Leitgeb Tucker (Gary), John Leitgeb, Alicia Leitgeb, Austin Leitgeb, Samuel Leitgeb, Abigail Leitgeb; and one great-granddaughter, Maddie Beth Tucker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Eckstein Leitgeb; sister, Elsie Currenti; and brother, John Leitgeb, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 1pm until the service hour Friday, April 12, 2024.

Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Whitlock Mortuary Friday, April 12, 2024 at three o’clock with the Rev. Mike Petty officiating.

Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
