More qualify for mid-term election

As of 1 p.m. today, three more candidates have qualified for the forth coming mid-term election in May.

Jim Ledford has qualified for the Stephens County Board of Commissioners’ post 4.

Joel Blackwell has qualified for the Board of Education.

Earlier this week, four have qualified for the County Commission seats: James Addison, for post 4; Incumbent Michelle Ivester, post 1; Incumbent Dean Scarborough, post 5, and John Smith, for Post 5.

Also, for the Board of Education, incumbents Rodney Moore, Jim Bellamy and Bill Wheeler have qualified.

Felton Biggers and Lakie Meeks have qualified for Soil and Water Conservation.

County Registrar Bill Cochran says qualifying for those races began Monday.

Qualifying is underway in Stephens County for local elections.

It is a mid-term election year and the Stephens County Registrar’s office is gearing up for the May 22nd General Primary.

In Stephens County, three County Commission seats and four Board of Education Seats are up for grabs.

County Registrar Bill Cochran says qualifying ends at noon tomorrow, Friday, March 9, and that the List of qualifying candidates will be posted by 2 p.m.

The qualifying fee for the County Commission races is $360, and the qualifying fee for the Board of Education races is $36.

Cochran said the County Commission seats are at large and their districts are decided by the County Commission chair.

Meantime, early voting starts April 30th and ends May 18th.

Additionally, the deadline to register to vote for the May primary is April 24th.
