Monday morning accident leaves one dead

Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa has released preliminary details of Monday morning’s fatal three-vehicle wreck on Ga. 365 south of Trestle View Road in Stephens County.

The wreck occurred shortly before 7:00 a.m., and involved a tractor-trailer truck, a car and a pickup truck.

A 2017 Ford Mustang driven by John Dean McKay, 21, of Demorest was northbound in the right lane of Ga. 365 south of Trestle View Road.

A 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac pickup truck, driven by Andres Domingo-Andres, 40, of Alto, was traveling in the right lane of Ga. 365 directly in front of the Mustang.

The third vehicle, a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia flatbed tractor-trailer, driven by 56-year-old Miquel Hipolito Padron of Auburn, was parked on the right shoulder of Ga. 365 south of the turn lane for Davis Mountain Road, according to GSP.

The Mustang struck the pickup truck in the left rear with its right front, then the truck traveled onto the right shoulder, striking the trailer of the tractor-trailer in the rear with its front, according to GSP. The Mustang continued, coming to rest in the gore of the left turn lane.

The pickup truck came to rest with its front under the rear portion of the flatbed tractor-trailer.

Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley told WNEG News about the incident.

“Eyewitnesses saw a new White Mustang pull out of Rock Road at a high rate of speed, about a mile down the road, the Mustang lost control clipping the rear-end of the white pickup truck which caused the pickup truck to lose control and run into the rear-end of the tractor-trailer,” Shirley said.

After deputies assessed the accident they requested the aid of the Georgia State Patrol, Shirley said.
McKay was taken by ambulance to Stephens County Hospital with what GSP termed non-incapacitating injuries.

Padron was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending, according to GSP.
