Mize named Interim Police Chief

During last night’s Toccoa City Commission meeting, City Manager Billy Morse announced that Toccoa Police Department Detective Jimmy Mize will be Interim Police Chief after current Police Chief Tim Jarrell’s resignation Dec. 30.

“Detective Mize is well-respected inside the Toccoa Police Department, and well-liked in our community,” Morse said. “I am confident that he will do a great job for the City.”

Mize has twenty-five years of law enforcement experience, serving twenty-years with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Department.

He has worked for the Toccoa PD for over four years.

Mize told WNEG News that he loves Toccoa and the community and is excited to serve them.

“I really appreciate this opportunity to serve as the interim police chief,” Mize said. “It’s an honor that the City is allowing me to have this trial period. Toccoa is awesome, the people here are great too, we just have a great community.”

Mize will be working alongside Jarrell until Jarrell’s last day with the City of Toccoa.
