Memorial Day Service planned for Monday

Monday is Memorial Day and in Toccoa-Stephens County, local veterans’ organizations have organized a ceremony to be held in the covered pavilion at 11 a.m. on May 29.

The National Weather Service forecast for Memorial Day in Toccoa calls for mostly sunny skies, with high temperatures nearing 83 degrees.

Members of the public are asked to arrive at Camp Toccoa at Currahee, located at 2351 Ayersville Road, by 10:30 a.m. so they can be seated prior to the start of the ceremony.

Lyn Hack, who is working with Ron Rider and Dave Cornelius to coordinate the event, says that all veterans and their families and friends are invited, as well as the community, to join them during the Memorial Day ceremony.

Additionally, the City of Toccoa and Stephens County Government Offices have released their holiday schedules for Memorial Day.

All Stephens County Government Offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.

Toccoa City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 29.

Garbage and recycling scheduled to be picked up on Monday, May 29, will be picked up on Tuesday, May 30.

Commercial Garbage will be picked up as usual, but yard waste and other items will not be collected.

The Toccoa Police and Fire Departments will be on duty.

Utility Department employees, as well as employees from the Public Works Department, will be on call for emergency situations.

The Links at Lake Toccoa will operate as normal.
